8.07.09 Typhoon Marakot ruins our day

Jet lag made us wake up at 5am, so we went for a run in the typhoon rains. We ran through the Taipei National
University campus. The
outdooramphitheater was completely flooded; it looked like a pond. We stopped for a quick snack at the 7-11, where the store clerk gave us some odd looks and expressed concern about exercising in the typhoon. 7-11 in Taiwan is a whole different creature. They have tons of yummy food and drinks and cheap beer. We took another route back home and got lost because all the buildings looked similar. We wandered around in the typhoon for a while and got in our exercise for the day.

We had grand plans for the day, but everything was closed due to the typhoon. We tried to visit about 3 temples that were all closed. We got off at Long Shan Temple station off the metro. The only one open was Bao-An Temple (picture above). There was a bitchy man there who wouldn't take a picture for us because he had a stick up his ass. We also passed by the Confucius temple, but it was closed. We later walked by another temple where the locals were having some ceremony.

The Longshan area was really old and parts were quite dirty and smelly. I had forgotten places like this existed in the city. My mother had warned me, but I paid no heed. We took the metro to Gong Guan station next where Jenn bought tons of clothes and accessories. Jenn wanted to go to her favorite hair place, but found the door half closed so she knocked. We climbed in under the door and they all stared and laughed because they were having a staff meeting. At any rate, Jenn got an awesome haircut (including 2 washes, scalp massage, cut and style) for about $8.

Next we went to Xi Men Ding shopped and saw another temple. We came back later and went to Old Town San Xia, near where Jenn's parents live. We really wanted to party but everything was closed so we went to sleep early.
