8.08.09 First Full Day

Today we went to Bi Long Temple, which is kind of a hidden obscure temple in the middle of nowhere in San Xia. It was really beautiful in the usual gaudy Chinese way. It is nestled in a lush hillside and we had to climb some intense steps to get up there. There was also a pagoda and some nice temple grounds.

Afterwards we went to Jiu Fen, which used to be an old mining town, but is now mainly a tourist attraction. We ate and drank tea and coffee at a teahouse that overlooked the valley.

We ate at a popular restaurant in Taipei for dinner, and met up with Julia and Rebecca to go to bars afterward. The first stop was Barcode, which is this sexy and posh joint in East Village. The posh joints in Taiwan are far better than those in the United States because the employees are nice and actually treat you like a guest, rather than someone who was lucky enough to get into their stupid, overrated establishment.

Next we went to Sappho and enjoyed some live music and beers.

Finally we went to a charming lounge where Rebecca works, and had some red wine and Erdinger beers. It was a really fun night, and the 30 minute cab ride home was only $18.
